The Unstoppable Danny Pink

I was running through the sites of some of my cyber-buddies and stopped to read the comments on a post from Danielle. I love this girl's sense of humor. She's a riot.

As I read her comment, I had a story form in my mind. So this, my friends, is the first episode of the adventures of The Unstoppable Danny Pink. Will there be future episodes? That depends on her.

The Unstoppable Danny Pink

The late autumn sun began to set, as the large tank lumbered upon the horizon. The citizens of Bloggersville watched in awe as the metal beast grew closer. They noticed that it began to slow, stopping at the edge of their community.

The deafening roar ceased abruptly, leaving only piercing silence. Faintly, a squeaking sound was heard as the hatch door began to open. An enchanting woman dressed in pink emerged from within. She pulled herself atop the steel steed and addressed the wide-eyed blogsfolk.

"Citizens of Bloggesville", she announced, "I am the Unstoppable Danny Pink, and I have come to rid this sphere from the clutches of the One-Mind. No longer will you need to be the same. Never again will you all have to look alike in order to belong, for I possess the power of schmooze".

The citizens of Bloggersville stood quietly mesmerized. They had dreamed of a world filled with adversity, but hadn’t thought it possible. The One-Mind had a firm grip on most of their world. More and more, things had began to merge into one idea, one mission, one mind.

The lady in pink stood proud, wisps of hair dancing in the breeze beneath her pink hat. "Good people, it’s time fight the One-Mind. I will give you the power to diversify. I’ll give you new ideas to ponder. Together, we can beat the One-Mind and live in a society of exchanged knowledge and creative expression. Join me as we enter a new era".

The blogspeople rejoiced in the cyber-streets as they witnessed the dawning of a new age. Will this endeavor come to pass? Will our Pink Queen lead the way to a revolution? Find out on our next episode of The Unstoppable Danny Pink.

Quiet Sunday

It's a quiet Sunday as well it should be. Now that Blogathon 2007 is over, most bloggers are probably sleeping. Though I wasn't one of the bloggers, I did what I could to support those who did.

Mike and Tish from BlogsWeLuv raised more than $300 for The Glaucoma Foundation. HomeMom3 raised $55 for Hope for the Warriors. These were personal charities for me as I've got a friend who suffers from glaucoma, and I've got a nephew in Iraq.

I was thrilled to find out that I was one of the winners at BlogsWeLuv, for the pewter polliwogs. These were donated by Polli of PolliwogsPond.com. I love a good contest, and even more so when it's for a good cause. I was also honored to have my 10 questions posted at BlogsWeLuv. I loved this idea, and got all excited when I got up this morning to see my questions and answers posted.

Another cool thing that happened yesterday was that I received an invitation to join Pownce. I've heard others talking about it over the past few weeks, and wasn't sure if it was something I'd use or not. However, I have joined and will see if it's worth it or not. Also, I have 6 invites to give away, so if anyone would like one, let me know. Everyone I thought of sending invites to have already joined, so it wouldn't do me much good.

There was a lot of productivity on the net yesterday, and I'm proud to say that in a round-about way, I was a part of it. I hope those that put their efforts into the Blogathon get some much needed sleep and that their fingers heal quickly.

Ancients more modern than previously thought

I have so many interests that it's hard to keep them all straight. Besides being a writer, I also enjoy quilting, doing needlepoint, and anything and everything that has to do with ancient history.

I spend a lot of time checking out all the historical websites and latest news on archaeological discoveries. This one was totally cool though. I ran across an article at LiveScience.com that tells of a mummy that was found wearing a prosthetic toe. Yes, a toe.

The article goes on to state that the prosthetic shows signs of wear, meaning that it was probably an actual working unit, and not just something put on after death by embalmers. If this turns out to be true, it will push back the date of known prosthetics by 600 to 700 years. How cool is that.

It's amazing that a lot of the things we take for granted as being a "modern" innovation, was thought of thousands of years before by a people we now deem as being "primative".

Blogging for a cause

I’ve entered several contests in the past few weeks, but this one is for such a good cause, I’m posting it on all my blogs.

Mike and Tish of
BlogsWeLuv will be blogging for a continuous 24 hours beginning 6am California time, for Blogathon 2007. They’re not just doing this for the love of blogging, they’re doing this for a great cause. They will be accepting donations for The Glaucoma Foundation. My husband’s best friend is plagued by glaucoma and I’ve seen how it affects people.

Here’s the contest part. Polli from
Polliwog’s Pond has donated 12 pewter polliwogs to be given away during the blogathon. Also, I encourage everyone out there to make a small donation to The Glaucoma Foundation. For each $5 donation, you will receive one entry into a drawing for a $25 gift card from Amazon.com.

So I really hope everyone will come out and support Mike and Tish in their efforts to
raise some money for this great charity, and to keep them awake as they blog their little fingers off.
Blogathon 2007 will begin on Saturday, July 28th at 6am PST or 9am EST. So come on out and help Mike and Tish with their efforts. I have a feeling the coffee industry may see a rise in their sales during that 24 hours. LOL

Good luck Mike and Tish.

Panic

As you've seen in the past, I like to write poetry. Unlike many people in the world today, I still love rhyming poetry. When I first started trying to sell my poetry to online sites, I quickly found out that it was seen as "amateur-ish" and "proof of limited knowledge".

I tried for a long time to acquire the knack for writing poetry that flowed without rhyming. I only wrote one that I felt was actually worth publishing. This is that poem, and I call it "Panic".

A panic rose within my mind, a feverish pitch of fear and rage.

I tried desperately to quiet the unending thoughts of horror that
raced around in blur of atrocities.

The gnawing in my soul warned that all would be lost with no
hope to regain the pleasures of the here and now.

Then a momentary glimmer of faith emerged from the fading mist
of a sidestepped reality.

Quickly, I forced my way through stacks of books thrown from the
shelves in frantic haste and piles of strewn laundry to victoriously
announce that I had found the remote.

Of course, I eventually decided to say bite me and went back to my comfort zone.

Tagged once again.

Remember when we played tag as children. The whole premise of the game was to keep from getting tagged, because then you were it, and heaven forbid you should be "it".

Now, as bloggers, we get all giddy when we find out we've been tagged. I am lucky enough to have been tagged once again. My beautiful friend, Danielle, tagged me with the latest "Tips Train". I like this one, as it's more than just a bunch of links. It's filled with tips from blogger all over the world. Everyone has that one little thing that makes their blog stand out from the rest, and this train gives everyone a chance to make themselves a little better, and a little more exposed.

The rules are simple. Just copy and paste the list below. Read through the list of tips and place a star next to the ones you like the best. Finally, add your link and tip at the bottom of the list and send it on to the next group of bloggers.

Look, read, and learn. - http://www.neonscent.com/ ****
Be, EXCELLENT to each other. - http://www.bushmackel.com/ ****
Don’t let money change ya! - http://www.therandomforest.info/ ****
Always reply to your comments. - http://chattiekat.com/ *****
Spell check is your friend. - http://thingsbymike.com/ **
Be the blog. -http://www.meandmydrum.com/*
Blog about your passions. - http://www.pinkhatseo.info/ *
Write like your talking to a friend. - http://sapheyerblu.blogspot.com/

If we can keep this train a rollin', there could potentially be wealth of information circulating throughout the blogosphere.

To my friends Sire, Silken, and Ryan, may I just say:

TAG, YOU'RE IT!!!!!!!

UPDATE: I was Graced by the presence of the person who began this train. Here is a link to the full list of links and tips. Thanks Grace for stopping by!!!!!

It's a dog's life

I received an invitation for a review exchange a few days ago and after checking out for a couple of days, I thought I'd better get my review posted. LOL

The site is called LOLDogs, and if you need a good laugh, this is the place to go. The post silly pictures of dogs and add their own slogans to each one. Some of the pictures are way too cute. This one is my favorite. LOL

One thing you'll want to be aware of is the fact that nearly everything on the site is written in computer lingo. I'm pretty sure it's done intentionally, and it does add to the personality of the site.

Another cool thing about this blog is that they accept submissions from their readers. However, be sure to read their guidelines before sending in your pictures.

This is a neat little site and good for a laugh. So, if you're having a down day and need a little something to brighten your mood, stop on by and LOL @ dogs.

Shameless self-promotion

Hey ya'll. I just wanted to invite everyone over to check out my other blog and read the interview I did with Matt Huggins. I've been a big fan of Matt's for several months now, and was so excited when he agreed to do an interview.

If you don't know who Matt Huggins is, or have never stopped by his blog, I highly recommend that you do so. Matt's blog is filled with ways of increasing your visibility on the web, as well as essential widgets/plugins that every blogger should have.

If you have a blog that is dedicated to earning money online or something along those lines, and would like to do a link swap with my other blog, just let me know and we'll see what we can work out.

If you've got a blog that isn't related to that topic, but are still interested in doing a link exchange, we can work with that as well.

The Essence of Friendship

I’m not your friend,
for what you know.
I’m your friend,
for what you show.

Be we neighbors,
or miles apart.
I call you friend,
down in my heart.

Friendships run,
through space and time.
The essence of,
this little rhyme.

I’m proud to say,
you are my friend.
And these words,
to you, I send.

First round's on me!!

I had to post this. I'm still giggling at myself.

My last post was about Ryan Shamus' latest contest on pagerank. I did most of the little things I had to do to correctly enter the contest, and then left a post on his blog to let him know that I was entering.

He was also holding another contest for a Mr. Beer microbrewery kit. The 504th commentor on his blog would win the prize, and ironically, it was me. LMAO!!!!!!!

I wasn't even trying to win that one, as I have no clue as to what to do with a microbrewery. But I bet you I learn how. I can see it now, this little hillbilly will be out in my backyard hooking up the hootch machine. I'll put it out by the cement pond.

I want to publicly thank Ryan. He's got a really cool blog, and runs some awesome contests. Check out his site, and tell him Sapheyerblu said hi.

Putting a little guess work in a contest

Ok, first and foremost, I really never intended for this blog to be a contest entering device. However, dealing with the reality that I love a good contest, it's turning out to be one. Oh well.

I've found another great contest that takes some ingenuitive guess work. Check out Ryan Shamus' blog for all the details. I strongly suggest that you read all the rules, and through all the cool prizes that Ryan's going to be passing out. I'm hoping for first prize on this one, simply for the "regulation sized U-Max flying disc.

Ok, here's the skinny on this perticular contest. Ryan is hosting a "Guess the next pagerank update" contest. Basically, you need to guess the exact date of the next pagerank update. However, I've read on a few other blogs that it is already happening, but I'm not sure to what extent. I've heard a few bloggers talking about the fact that they're beginning to see changes to their PR numbers, while others still haven't seen anything. So for me, I'm not sure what's going on.

Anyway, here's my totally uneducated guess. My prediction is that the big change will come, (if it happens like that), on July 21, 2007. That just sounds like a nice, round, number.

I really liked the idea of this contest because I'm one of the "newbies" that is waiting for a PR score. My other blog somehow managed to get rated in the last round, even though it was only a new blog. It has a PR 1 ranking at the moment, and I'd really like to see that number raise a little.

As I said before, be sure to check out Ryan's latest contest. Who knows, you might win yourself a "regulation sized U-Max flying disc". LOL

Blogging for a prize

Yes, boys and girls, we have another blogging contest. This one sounds like it could be worth it's weight in words. LOL

Here's the scoop. The Prize Blog is holding a 6-day contest, where someone will be winning things like, a spot on a high traffic blogroll, an MP3 player, reviews, and even some cold, hard, cash. Whoo Hoo!!!

There are several ways to earn entries into the contest. Subscribing to their RSS feed, adding them to your Technorati favorites, and placing a comment about the contest on another blog will earn you 5 entries each. Doing a review with a link to the contest will earn you 20 entries. How cool is that. Entries will be accepted through July 23, and prizes will start being doled out on July 17th, so get your entries in now.

I'm a sucker for a contest and this one really caught my attention. And though this contest brought me to this site, I'm sure I'll be keeping my eye on it for some time to come. Stop by and check out Brian's site and see if you can't win one of these cool prizes.

I am NOT an addict!!!

I stopped by one of my cyber-buddies places today, and found this cool little test. It tells you whether or not your addicted to blogging. I've never thought of myself as an addict, but now I know for sure that I'm not.

54%How Addicted to Blogging Are You?

Of course, the first thing I did was to run over here and write a post about it, but that doesn't mean a thing. LOL

I found a cranking widget

I found another contest that has me all a twitter. It’s put on at a site called Cranking Widgets and after checking the site out, I knew I had to enter.

The blog’s owner, Brett, has set up a blog on a topic I never would have thought of, Getting Things Done. It’s that simple. There are little tips on how to improve productivity, free software downloads, and few other personal ramblings that makes this blogger a bit more realistic.

The first thing that grabbed me about this blog was, of course, the contest. Now, as I’ve said in the past, I love a good contest. This one carries a $50 prize tag with it, and that really sparked my interest. The rules are pretty simple. Write a review of the site (200 word minimum), placing a link back to both the contest page and the homepage. This contest will end on August 1st, or when the site has received 30 reviews, whichever comes last. In the end, one review will be chosen at random.

I took my time checking the site out before making any decisions about it, and liked what I read/saw. It’s a fun site. Brett gives some pretty good tips on productivity, a few things I think I need to try myself. However, he also shows his personal side with his posts about his family.

Be sure to check out Brett’s bio. If you want to know why he named his blog CrankingWidgets.com, you’ll find the answer here.

Zac Johnson's giving stuff away

Zac Johnson has had an exciting week at the Affiliate Summit in Florida. Now that it’s over, though, he’s made sure to load his suitcases with lots of goodies to give away to his readers.

Zac’s getting ready to put on a big promotion, with a lot of those goodies going to new blogging homes, but right now, he’s looking for help in getting the word out to others.

Check out some of the things he’ll be giving away and keep an eye open for his upcoming promotion for your chance to win one of the cool things he took home from his exciting trip.

Portuguese movie moguls

A few weeks back, I joined a blog review site called ReviewBack, where bloggers can exchange reviews with other bloggers.

A couple of days ago, I was sent a request for a blog exchange. Well, now that I've had a chance to really check the site out, I've come to the realization that kids are the same all over the world. The site is titled Aaaai! Tal, and though I have no idea what that means, I can tell you that if you've got access to the Internet and own a video camera, you can be a film maker.

These kids are trying hard to create short, humorous films/videos. The thing is that if I didn't know that they were from Portugal, I'd swear that they were kids from down the street. One clip they've posted on their site has them trying to interview a horse about the issue of global warming.

I have to give these kids credit for at least attempting to do something more than just sit around doing nothing with their lives. I would never have the nerve to do some of the things they do, but then again, I'm not a kid anymore.

They do openly ask for ideas for movies. So, if you've got an idea, or just want to check out these Portuguese movie makers, stop by Aaaai! Tal.

Rock On!!!!!

This is turning out to be a great week. Today I won $10 in a cool contest, but yesterday I received something that made me feel really good. I received the coveted "Rocker Girl Blogger" award. Ok, so maybe it's not an award, but I saw this badge on another girl's blog and thought it was cool. Of course, I never thought I'd end up with one. Thank you, Silken.

You know, this blog may never be in Google's top 100, but I don't care. I'm having way to much fun. I'm even thinking about creating a contest of my own. I do love a good contest, and I'd really like to be the one to offer one for my fellow bloggers to try. I already know what to offer for a prize, I'm just not sure how to put the rest of it together.

I'll keep everyone updated on this idea as it progresses. Who knows, I may even figure it out before the night's over. LOL

Ok, anyway, I need to pass this acheivement on to female bloggers I think are deserving of this award/tag/whatever. Ok, this might be a bit of a challenge, but here we go.

I don't know if she's already gotten one or not, but I'm going to send this on to an amazing female blogger, my cyberbuddy, Danielle. I am totally in awe of this girl as she's taken a little blog and turned it into a traffic magnet in only a few short weeks. You go, girl.

I also have to send one to my friend, Lorna Lou. I highly recommend you read this woman's work, as she's a very talented writer.
And finally, I'm sending one to Breezie and one to MaliciousKitty, simply for kindly stopping by my blog. My way of saying thanks.
Now, how cool is that. Rock on, girls. Rock on!!!

A "Sevenly" Contest

UPDATE: This contest is now over and I'm happy to announce that I won one of the consolation prizes. 3 winners were awarded $3 each and one winner that posted a review of the site won $10. I won the $10!!! Yippy Skippy!!

Be sure to check out Ryan's site as he's going to be holding another contest on the 13th of this month. Thanks again, Ryan. You're my hero!!

One of my favorite sites out there is a blog called ContestBlogger. As I was checking out all the latest contest posts, I ran across one that I just had to try out for.

The contest is put on by a site called Ryan444123.com. The rules are pretty simple for the most part. Here's the scoop:

The contest runs until 7:07:07 EST, on July 7th. 7 people will be chosen to win $7.77. You will receive 1 entry into the contest for leaving a comment on his site, 3 entries for linking to the site, and 5 entries for reviewing his site.

I ran through the site and quickly realized that it is simply a place for Ryan to let off some steam, throw out a few ramblings, and post a few sponsored posts. For the most part, it's a pretty basic blog. The only thing that struck me was his header quote. It reads "Let your couscous be your guide". Now I could be wrong, and it wouldn't be the first time, but I think that should be "conscience", not "couscous".

Ok, that's just the editor in me. Little things like that just seem to jump out at me. Of course, it only works when I'm looking at someone else's work. For some reason I can't seem to catch my own typos.

Anyway, if you're looking for some offbeat ramblings, check out Ryan's site and get your entries in for the contest before it's to late.

My Scout Skit

Ok kids, this is the skit I was telling you all about. There are a few things I have to divulge first as the humor will be lost without these few facts.

The 2 coolest staff members are the camp director, Ernie, and the program director, Jeff. Ernie's a cool guy with a huge tolerance for kids, and a very warped sense of humor, which I like in a person. Jeff is a little person who cruises all over camp in his motorized wheelchair. Though Jeff is small in stature, he's a giant amoung men. When you read the skit, keep these 2 people in mind.

Back in the 70's, when I was a kid, there were a few records put out that sounded like a news report with certain parts being snippets of popular songs. I think the most famous one was a record called "Mr. Jaws". This skit is based on that principal.

The Spirit of Camp Augustine

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your action news reporter, Scoopy Tickledpink, bringing you this late breaking news flash. There have been several reports that a ghost has been sighted here at Camp Augustine.

According to my resources, this camp spirit has been found in almost every nook and cranny of the property. With me now, is Officer Buford Nosenugget.

Officer Nosenugget, can you tell me what witnesses say this spirit looks like?
Like a rhinestone cowboy

And what should our viewers look for when walking through camp?
Knights in white satin

Thank you Officer Nosenugget. I have the pleasure to interview two of the witnesses of this apperition. My first guest is Rollie Noodlepicker. Can you tell me what you were doing at the time you saw the ghost?
Splish splash, I was taking a bath

And when was this?
Tuesday afternoon

Thank you Mr. Noodlepicker. Next with us is one of our local campers, Freddie Farfrompukin. I understand you actually heard the voice of this spirit, can you tell us what it said to you?
Let's do the twist

And what did this voice sound like?
It is the sound of silence

Thank you, Freddie. Locals have brought in experts from different areas to try and find more information on this spector.

This here is world reknown paranormal expert, Dr. Nathaniel Jeffenernie. According to your investigation, when is this ghost most active?
Those summer nights

And what would you suggest people do should they encounter the ghost?
Run, run, run, runaway

Thank you Dr. Jeffenernie. With us now is the great ghost hunter, Hans Hakkenlugie. Sir, can you tell us where this spirit was first sighted?
In the sweet, by and by

And did you see where it was going?
Leaving on a jet plane

Hans Hakkenlugie, ladies and gentlemen. I'd now like to introduce Inspector Bobby Jo Mamma, detective 1st class with the FBIDS, or Federal Beareau of Incredibly Dumb Skits. I hear you've been working this case since the beginning. Has the camp's director made any comments about the ghostly activity here at camp?
He said, "Hey you, get off of my cloud

And what about the other staff members, what have they had to say?
We're not gonna to take it. No, we ain't gonna take it. We're not gonna take it, anymore.

Thank you, Detective. Finally, we have psychic to the stars, Corky FrogRocket, who has spent the afternoon contacting the camp spirit.

Corky, have you learned any facts of the spirit's former life?
She said, "I don't like spiders and snakes

Interesting, is there any other information on our ghost?
She thinks my wheelchair's sexy (we added that one for Jeff)

There you have it, folks. And remember to be on the lookout for the spirit of Camp Augustine.

Skeeters and flies and ticks, Oh my!!

Yes boys and girls, I have made it home from camp. I had a blast this past week, but I'm so glad to be home.

As the title of this post says, I had to fight off all the little creepy crawlies that the great state of Nebraska has to offer. The mosquitos and ticks were just awful. My perfume of choice for the week was "Deep Woods Off". I've come to the conclusion that the bugs love the smell. LOL. However, it was the little biting flies that I had the most trouble with. No matter how much bug spray I applied, they saw me as a walking salad bar.

I will do several posts on my week at camp, including one on the skit I wrote for my boys. Each year at the end of the week, there is a camp wide campfire and each troop puts on a skit for everyone else. Each year, I write our skit so we can say we did something that no one else did. It's a blast.

We spent the week with another troop from Eastern Nebraska. The first night, we stayed on our own ends of the campsite, but by the end of the second night, both of our troops had teamed up to make one great group of kids. I am now known as "Mama Bear", as I took all the boys from the other troop under my wing.

I am glad to be home again, but I wouldn't have missed this past week for the world. Each year I hate the idea of going, but once I get there, I'm so glad I went. I always learn something new about myself, and about the world of scouting. It just goes to show that you're never to old to learn new ticks, er, I mean tricks.
